Lab-created/lab-grown diamonds. If you have been looking at diamonds or engagement rings over the past year, I am sure that you have heard about the "lab-grown/lab-created" diamond option. I would say there is a divide in the market. There are several people who prefer "lab" diamonds, and then the others prefer to stick with "natural" or "earth" diamonds.
Let's start with what "lab-created" diamonds are...
Basically the same chemical composition as a natural diamond.
Looks the same as a natural diamond to the naked eye.
Lab-created diamonds are genuine diamonds, just grown in a lab. Carbon is put under heat and pressure in a lab. The diamond is formed within approximately two weeks.
Lab-created diamonds hold up, sparkle, and remain just as scratch resistant as a natural diamond.
What are the benefits of choosing lab-created diamonds?
Fraction of the price of an equivalent natural diamonds.
Larger look for your budget.
If budget is a concern, you can move higher up the color/clarity scale at a more affordable price.
Why not go lab-created then?
Some people just prefer "earth" or "natural" diamonds. The wearer likes the fact it is more "rare".
How can you tell the difference between lab-created and natural diamonds?
Lab-created diamonds have a laser inscription (invisible to the naked eye) that reads "lab" on the girdle (edge) of the diamond that can be read under microscopic magnification.
There is a multi-thousand dollar piece of equipment that can study how fast the diamond grew by the growth patterns. It can tell the difference.
Other than those two points, everything else is the same.
